Opening Up: Why Businesses Should Resume Operating NOW
by Ana Carissa Del Castillo
Finally, there has been a huge drop in COVID-19 cases in the Philippines.
According to the OCTA Research Group, the Philippines has officially experienced the country’s lowest daily count since the pandemic began. As such, the Alert Level in the Metro Manila area, Malacañang had announced that it would be downgraded to a considerably safer level.
Data from the Department of Health (DOH) revealed that the hospitalization utilization in the National Capital Region (NCR) has gone down to, according to OCTA fellow Guido David, a “very good reproduction number” and that “positivity rate has improved.”
Taking each movement in daily statistics into heavy consideration, many small- and large-scale companies have been heavily contemplating on having their employees resume work in physical offices — that is, of course, strictly following protocols and restrictions.
Which brings us to our focal point — if you are looking for a clear sign, a “go signal” if you will, whether to resume operation for your own business: THIS IS IT.
2020 came with its barrage of problems, COVID-19 being the entire global population’s main one. However, if there is one lesson to keep in mind during our share of lockdowns and safety protocols, it’s that so much can change in a span of a year.
Many entrepreneurs had to postpone or even cancel business plans. It was hard enough to stay afloat during the biggest pandemic since the H1N1 Swine Flu in 2009, but as the current news lineup suggests, hope is beginning to shine a light in the darkest year of the decade, especially for entrepreneurs and business-minded groups and individuals.
Reasons to Start Reopening Now
1. There is less competition.
Many companies started 2020 on a spectacular note: more customers, exciting business plans, basically flourishing — until the pandemic struck. Businesses that did manage to stay open had to restrategize, and sometimes even start from scratch.
Usually, people launch their businesses when the economy is buoyant. But, see, now that the world is beginning to pick itself up again, especially with the quickly reducing number of cases in the country, it’s high-time that you take advantage of this and resume operations.
At this rate, having fewer competition gives you one less thing to worry about.
If you are still not convinced, read on to item number two.
2. Consumerism is at an all-time high.
How will you promote your business and find customers? Digitally, of course.
Nowadays, it’s next to impossible to find any one person who doesn’t have their eyes glued to their phone screen. Smartphones are pretty much considered an extra limb at this point.
Online consumption is at an all-time high. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram — social media and plenty of e-Commerce platforms have become a saving grace in these trying times. Majority of consumers now prefer to order goods and services online because of the extremely low chances of face-to-face contact. As such, businesses have moved their platforms online to be able to reach a much wider range of audiences.
The ideal thing to do, once you reopen your business, is to consult and/or team up with a digital marketing agency. The right digital marketing team of online professionals can definitely help your business run smoothly despite the pandemic. You won’t have to worry about spreading the word about your business because these SEO experts can implement that just fine.
Frankly, working with a digital marketing agency will get you more bang for your buck.
3. Take your pick of the litter.
Whether employees were forced to resign or were simply let go, the pandemic took jobs left and right, leaving so much talent and potential basically out of work.
If you’re looking to hire employees for your business, you are now presented with a larger pool of experienced individuals who can help your company grow and expand.
In this case, you can definitely rebuild your business with hand-picked talent. On a related note, because competition is low during this time, you may be on the upper hand here since you will be able to recruit amazing talent at affordable rates.
Alternatively, your business will be part of a smaller pool of potential waiting to be invested on.
It’s no secret that many entrepreneurs had to withdraw or pause their investments during the better part of 2020, at the peak of the pandemic. At this time, it is likely that these same people are willing to start investing in businesses again, especially smaller or budding ones.
Because there are so few businesses willing to bravely take risks right now, there are more opportunities to get funded by angel investors and grow your business much faster despite the ongoing pandemic. To reiterate, make sure to restrategize to catch their eye!
4. Customers are waiting.
Think of the loyal customers you have left behind, and those with the potential to become one.
Because everyone is basically online, consumers are just waiting to jump on the newest trend to kill boredom while staying in quarantine or lockdown. If your business has something new and unique to offer, now is your chance to spread the word, while competition is low.
A digital marketing agency can do twice, thrice, or even ten times as well when it comes to promoting your brand to the masses. They can help identify and target potential leads that can turn into paying clients, and help build customer relationships online.
As mentioned, the social media game is at its strongest right now too, so don’t miss the chance to let everyone know that you will be back soon.
Remember: It’s Now or Never
If you don’t take the risk now, you will be missing out on potential growth for your business.
One good thing that 2020 gave us in abundance was time. A year or so is enough to conduct research, as well as rebuild and restrategize. So much time needs to be put into execution, if you ever planned on reopening again.
No matter where you look at it, testing the waters is a terrifying idea — but, you must admit, it can be exciting as well. That’s a tell-tale sign that you are ready.
Like they say: it’s now or never.
